About Us
Our passion for whisky led us to create the Whisky Guild, a society based in the United States that provides a forum for whisky lovers to share their thoughts and ideas about whisky.
Jeff and I are brothers that share the same passion for scotch and the New York Jets. As you can imagine, scotch has been a lot more satisfying of late.
Our scotch journey began several years ago with the Johnnie Walker blends. Our father has been drinking Johnnie Red for as long as we can remember, so it was only natural for us to eventually start drinking scotch. On a whim, we started attending whisky tasting events and that’s what really fueled our passion for ‘the water of life’. Although our palates have expanded since sampling new whiskies, Johnnie Black is still the sentimental favorite.
I introduced my brother in-law, Brett, to scotch shortly after Jeff and I started really getting into single malts. Our cousin Jimmy, otherwise known as Shamus, has enjoyed whisky as long as we have but started as a Dewar’s and Macallan fan. Check out Shamus's Corner Pub on the whisky page.
Jeff is a big fan of ‘monster sherried’ drams. He also has the most extensive collection of us all and always seems to have something new in the house that we can’t wait to try. On the floor in our Whisky Guild office or on shelves of his dining room, you can always find a unique dram that typically can’t be readily acquired in the states.
Personally, I love whiskies from each region, discovering the uniqueness of each dram I try. Some of my favorites are the Islays, coastal and island whiskies that are heavily influenced by the sea. I also enjoy whiskies from around the world, like American Bourbons and Japanese and Irish whiskies.
Jimmy loves lighter, smoother whiskies, like Dalwhinnie and the Johnnie Walker blends. He was a successful salesman until he decided to join the ranks of the Bravest. His day job (and night job when you think about it) is now protecting the good people of New Jersey as a firefighter. And, now that he only works a few days a week, he has the time to contribute to the Whisky Guild. Although he’s a Scotsman, he still enjoys his beer with a shot of Jameson and drinks his red label over ice (ahhhh!). He’s also our best dart player, routinely schooling us in cricket and 301.
Brett is more of the hard core Islay fan. He loves anything that tastes like iodine mixed with seaweed. He’s since taken the blinders off and often enjoys (and even buys) sweeter Speyside and Highland malts. He also enjoys other whiskies from around the world including Bourbon, Irish and Japanese.
Adam’s first passion was quality beer. He even studied to be a beer judge for the American Homebrewers Association. Though one fateful night on a business trip to Frankfurt, Germany he attended his first real whiskey class and was forever hooked. Now whenever he books a trip overseas he makes sure he arrives home before his wife returns from work that day. This way he can hide all the bottles he bought overseas.
To the journey that never ends.
Cheers!
Glen
