Four Roses - Lawrenceburg, Kentucky
| Four Roses was founded by Paul Jones, Jr., and legend claims that the distillery name came from the number of roses on a corsage that a ‘Southern Belle’ wore as an indication of her interest in him. In 1884 Paul Jr., moved his distillery to Louisville, Kentucky and the distillery is now located near Lawrenceburg. The distillery is also one of the most beautiful in Kentucky and features a Spanish Mission – Style design that is unique to the region. After prohibition the brand grew into the largest selling Bourbon in the United States. |

In 1943 the distillery was purchased by Seagram who in incredibly discontinued US sales of the wildly popular Four Roses Straight Kentucky Bourbon line. Instead, they introduced a blended bourbon for the domestic market but continued to sell Straight Bourbon overseas. It’s just another example why large corporations can be a whiskey lover’s worst enemy. Rescue came in 2002 when the Kirin Brewery Company purchased the distillery and quickly introduced Four Roses Straight Bourbon back into the US market.
The distillery now offers several Straight Bourbons that are quickly gaining in popularity. They are well on their way to repairing the brand damage inflicted by the suits of Seagram but one taste of their whiskey will convince you they’re back and maybe better than ever. They’re in the process of rolling out their premium expressions on a wider scale, so if you don’t see them on the selves yet, hopefully you will soon.
Of the new range the Small Batch is our favorite but the full range is good and worth seeking out.
