The Origin:
A shot of Jameson followed by, you guessed it, a shot of pickle juice. This new twist was created at the Bushwick Country Club in New York.
My First Experience:
I can only imagine... it's 2am. Out of tequila & lemons, genius strikes. With only pickle juice and a bottle of Jameson left... the creation of the Pickle Back. No mixology here, just plain ingenuity. Ahhh, what would Reeses
Chocolate be without its peanut butter. This isn't just a dive bar craze, it's at some of the fanciest lounges and cocktail bars in the country.
While chatting with a bartender at Village Whiskies in Philadelphia, a woman next to me ordered this, to my amazement. Within 10 minutes, Pickle Backs were lining the bar for anyone that had a free hand. I was actually surprised at how well the two ingredients played off each other.
The Movement:
This underground craze is sweeping the nation. From New York to DC, LA, Philadelphia, Portland, and
Chicago. Don't think this is just an American movement. While in Scotland, the birth place of Scotch
whisky of all places, I was sitting at a local pub with a group. A voice from the back yelled, "Eight Pickle Backs please", the bartender, without hesitation, poured the Jameson on the bar while he strained a jar of pickle juice like it was a house specialty.
So if you dare to try the Pickle Back and join the movement, just remember once you go pickle, you'll keep going back! |
