You can almost taste the salt before the whisky with this one. A very nice whisky that is underrated. The peat oily body is a pleasant surprise with hints of honey. A very nice whisky at a great price

Oil, salt, peat, and grass, how could you go wrong. A malt that grows on you like an old beat up pick up truck. Strong seaside influence in this inexpensive dram. Good to have around on cold nights or hiking in the wood on a crisp Fall day. There’s just something appealing about this whiskey, like its blue collar image and/or strong character.
I'm just a sucker for coastal drams.

A refined premium Old Pulteney, say it isn’t so. What I love most about this Distillery from Wick is its blue collar sea port image. Their 12 year old is one of my favorite summertime drams that I like to bring on my annual pilgrimage to the Jersey Shore. Sea and salt is what I expected from this dram but what I got was fruit, coconut and vanilla. Gone is my beloved brine, but guess what, the dram is great and should appeal to a much wider audience than the 12 year old expression. Sweet with a great dry sharp finish makes this dram a winner.
Nose: Sweet, coconut, vanilla, some oak and crushed apples
Body: Medium and slightly oily
Finish: Long dry and sharp with that nice sweetness coming through (but not too much)
Very nice!

Well, the brine is back and is balanced perfectly with a fruity sweetness. A truly great nose. I really thought I was in for a treat but I was a little let down by finish which was short and didn’t compare to the 17 year old. The added maturation seemed to add depth to the nose but added too much wood to the body and finish. Still, it’s a good dram but I would reach for the 17 year old first.
Nose: Sweet and spicy, oak, some sherry
Body: Medium and slightly oily
Finish: Short and slightly dry, sweet, woody
A great nose.

Wow, this is one great dram! The best of the night and the best Pulteney I’ve had. Amazingly complex but very subtle. We had to work for the nose, but once it gave up its secrets we loved it. Hints of smoke, oak and butterscotch on the nose and a light to medium body without any traces of oil. The lack of oil isn’t a good or bad thing but it did work well with this dram. The finish was long and had a nice bite. Smooth but not too smooth.
Nose: Light smoke, oak, malt, butterscotch, subtle salt, burnt sherry
Body: Light to medium, no oil, clean
Finish: Long and malty, tannins and sherry, sharp
A great dram!
