Dram of the Month
January,
2008
Old Pulteney
17 year old
Highland Single Malt
A refined premium Old Pulteney, say
it isn’t so. What I love most about
this distillery from Wick is its
blue collar sea port image. Their 12
year old is one of my favorite
summertime drams that I like to
bring on my annual pilgrimage to the
Jersey Shore. Sea and salt is what I
expected from this dram but what I
got was fruit and vanilla and loads
of coconut. Gone is
my beloved brine, but guess what,
the dram is great and should appeal
to a much wider audience than the 12
year old expression. Sweet with a
great dry sharp finish makes this dram
a winner.
Nose: Sweet, coconut, vanilla, some oak and
crushed apples
Body: Medium and slightly oily
Finish: Long dry and sharp with that
nice sweetness coming through (but
not too much)
Very nice!
Cheers,
Glen
