Dram of the Month

June, 2008

Glenfiddich 15 year old

Scottish Single Malt

After recently seeing Glenfiddich’s Solera Vat in person I just had to sample this often overlooked Glenfiddich once again. I’ve always enjoyed this expression but until actually nosing and getting a few fingers wet in the Solera Vat, which of course was a total accident, I’ve come to appreciate this dram even more. A nice deep and complex nose of chocolate, honey, and vanilla give way to a smooth flavorful body and medium length finish. A whisky that’s perfect for sharing with friends even if they aren’t experienced Single Malt drinkers. Overall, the dram was well balanced, flavorful and with just enough complexity.  Has that ‘throw  the cork in the fire’ type of feel.

Nose: A brilliant nose, orange chocolates, malt, honey, vanilla, oak, vibrant
Body: Medium, smooth and malty
Finish: Medium length, spicy, classic Glenfiddich oak,  malt, vanilla, very smooth

Well balanced and enjoyable and one you’ll reach for often.

Cheers,
Glen
