Dram of the Month
September
2007
If
you’re a Scotch whisky aficionado, and
you’ve always turned your nose up at the
thought of bourbon, it’s time to
reconsider! After all, bourbon (and
other American whiskey) is NOT Scotch’s
poor relation. They are a delicious
alternative; sometimes sweet, sometimes
“bitey”, and in some ways more authentic
than Scotch. After all, some Scotches
put so much caramel color in their
whiskies; they could have started out
green, for all you know. But, bourbon is
pure. No artificial colors – just corn,
barley, rye &/or wheat (or sometimes
both), water, and yeast. What you see
(and taste) is what you get. There are
some excellent bourbons out there.
In honor of the annual September
Kentucky Bourbon Festival, we’ve decided
to make one of our favorite bourbons the
wee dram of the month.
Knob Creek 9 year old
Kentucky
Straight Bourbon Whiskey
In my opinion this is the best of Jim
Beam’s Small Batch Bourbon line. It’s
all here, with all the robust flavors
that made bourbon ‘America’s Whiskey’.
Throw in a long dry finish and you have
one heck of a dram. If you like
whisk(e)y this one should be a mainstay
in your cabinet.
Nose: Sharp, spicy, rye, charred notes
Body: Very sweet
Finish: Long and dry with a big rye
taste
Very smooth and flavorful, a great one!
Cheers,
Glen
If you live in the New Jersey / New York
area, these two stores have a great
selection of Jim Beam's Small Batch
